Who We Are
Modern Legacy Ltd ("we", "our", "us") is a will writing and estate planning business registered in England. Our registered address is available on request. We can be contacted at daniel@modernlegacy.co.uk.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What Data We Collect
When you use our will questionnaire or contact us, we may collect:
- Full name, date of birth and sex
- Home address, postcode, telephone number and email address
- Marital status and family details (spouse, children, dependants)
- Details of executors, guardians and beneficiaries you wish to appoint
- Financial information including property values, assets and liabilities
- Details of any business interests
- Funeral wishes and any additional notes you provide
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details)
How We Use Your Data
We use your personal information for the following purposes:
- To prepare your Will and related documents — your questionnaire answers are shared with The Will Company, our professional drafting partner, who prepares your legal documents.
- To communicate with you — to arrange consultations, send drafts for review, and respond to your enquiries.
- To process payments — payment is handled securely by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment but do not store your card details.
- To save your questionnaire progress — if you use the "Save & Continue Later" feature, your answers are stored securely for up to 30 days so you can return and complete the form.
- To send appointment reminders — booking confirmations and reminders are handled by Calendly.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data under the following legal bases:
- Consent — you give explicit consent when you tick the consent checkbox on our questionnaire before providing your details.
- Contract — processing is necessary to fulfil our contract with you for will writing and estate planning services.
- Legitimate interest — to follow up on saved but incomplete questionnaires, and to improve our services.
Who We Share Your Data With
We share your personal data with the following third parties, only to the extent necessary to provide our services:
- The Will Company (The Strategic Alliance Group Ltd) — our professional drafting partner who prepares your legal documents.
- Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
- Calendly — for appointment scheduling. Calendly's privacy policy is available at calendly.com/privacy.
- Netlify — our website hosting provider, where your questionnaire data is temporarily stored.
We will never sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
How Long We Keep Your Data
- Completed questionnaires — retained for the duration of our business relationship and for a period of 6 years afterwards, in line with legal and professional requirements.
- Saved (incomplete) questionnaires — automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Payment records — retained for 6 years as required by HMRC.
- Email correspondence — retained for the duration of our relationship and for a reasonable period afterwards.
Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data (subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it).
- Restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Data portability — request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

Cookies
Our questionnaire uses essential cookies only, which are necessary for the form to function. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Third-party services (Stripe, Calendly) may set their own cookies when embedded on our pages — please refer to their respective privacy policies for details.
Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously. All data transmitted through our questionnaire is encrypted using 256-bit SSL/TLS. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified provider. Access to your data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
